Jimmy Nguyen comes to New Canaan after three seasons at Carmel (NY) High School. Nguyen served as both an assistant coach and head coach of a team that won the State AA championship in 2021, completing a perfect season. Nguyen coached the Rams’ Tight Ends in his season during the 2022 championship run. He was promoted to Offensive Coordinator prior to the 2023 season.
Prior to his time at Carmel, Nguyen was an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, Endicott College where he coached the Wide Receivers. In his first season coaching the wideouts, Ngyuen guided three student-athletes to All-Conference honors and aided Endicott to league-best marks in passing yards (2,642), passing yards per game (240.2), passing touchdowns (29), and red zone percentage (86%).
Nguyen joined the Endicott staff after spending the previous year on the Western Connecticut State University football staff. While coaching at Western Connecticut, he worked with the wide receivers during the offseason. Additionally, he served as the strength and conditioning coach for the football, women’s lacrosse, men’s basketball, swimming and diving, and field hockey programs.
Prior to Western Connecticut, Nguyen also coached the wide receivers, the sophomore and junior varsity offensive lines, and acted as the strength and conditioning coach at Central Catholic High School (Lawrence, Mass.). During his time at Central, he assisted the team to two State Championships in 2013 and 2015. Under his direction, five All-Conference receivers, a league MVP, and a Boston Globe Player of the Year were produced at Central.
Athletically, Nguyen competed with the United States Skeleton Team from 2014 to 2017, landing a ninth-place finish at the 2016 US Nationals. Nguyen also was a two-time NEFC Academic All-Conference Team honoree during his four-year career with the Gulls. Appearing in 21 games with Endicott from 2009 to 2012, he recorded 42 catches for 469 total yards. During his senior campaign, he attained the Coaches Award. While competing with at Endicott, the Gulls went 33-11, appeared in the NCAA Tournament (2010), captured one NEFC Championship in (2010), and won the ECAC North Bowl Championship (2011 & 2012).
Nguyen has attained certifications as a Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) as well as an USA Weightlifting Level 2 Sports Performance Coach (USAWL2).
Academically, Nguyen graduated from Endicott in 2013 with a Bachelors in Exercise Science and attained his Masters in Athletic Administration in 2014.
